Bathurst Post Race

Sorry for abandoning the race, but the bloody tow truck would put me 3 or 4 laps down and I didn't want to cruise my beloved Bathurst without someone to race with. Couldn't imagine it to be fun with nothing to do but giving room for lapping cars. Sigh.
Think the car lost a wheel in T1 (lap 1), wouldn't respond to controls anyway and I didn't know what to do but call the #%&%# truck. Well, I did (haven't tried that move before), was placed in my pit, counter is running in top corner, green light's on? gave it gas - nothing. Looking at counter I realize it counts down. In minutes. And as the field pass by to their second lap, I realize the counter is actual serious. 5 more minutes before car will be released...

My vote goes for we skip the "Moderate damage" again?!

I didn't see that the damage being on changed the typical top 5 with the exception of Eardley (my bad). And Jan, all that much really. It screwed alot of the points guys. Great.

I think my crew had to rebuild the car three times during the race. Then on the last routine stop, they fumble the ball and screw up the jack!!!

Anyway I actually nursed the badly abused Jag to the end, and only 4 laps down, I think.

Long Beach is a track I know. Very very well, from the Papy Indycar days. If anyone wants to practice, let me know. Would be nice.

???What is the deal with paints? I have all the files from the site. I saw three nondescript cars. I don't understand.

Qualified P3 and once the green flag flew I just tried to keep pace with the two cars ahead of me. On lap 3 I lost it and spun going through Cougar Park area, luckely I didn't hit anything and was able to get back on track without loosing P3. I ran by myself for quite a few laps until I came up on Tom, Bob, Hoosier and Brent all piled up in the Cutting area (tight uphill left/right) I managed to make it through the mess clean and continued on until I pitted on lap17. Had a small incident with Cameron when he ran wide and then hit the inside wall going through The Cutting, he clipped my right rear when he was coming back on track causing me to spin hitting the outside wall. On lap 27 Hoosier lost it in the same area and came back onto the track just in front of me, I backed off a bit and followed him through the esses and up to the tight left hander at the top of the hill were he again went wide and hit the wall. I got up along side of him on the left going into the left hand esse corner but he stayed right beside me through the corner and we spun each other out. With about 2 laps to go my sporter started telling me that I was getting low on fuel and my fuel pressure light came on with a lap to go. I ran out of gas along the Conrod straight on the last lap and managed to coast over the S/F line and came to a stop about 15 feet after it.

I for one would rather run the rest of our races with Moderate damage on, I think it makes for better racing.

The track was my undoing. My car was waaaay damaged all race(starting with the turn 1 shuffle) but I carried on regardless until I ended up on my roof and was deposited in the pits waiting for the tow-clock to count down. Went for a pee and a smoke then rejoined the fray but should have stayed in the pits because every time I tried to get off the track to stay out of the way guys were going off around me anyway, must have thrown their concentration off, sorry all.

I was lucky and cleared the T1 mess. That put me in 4th
place. Then for 2 - 3 laps another Sauber and me had
some close and clean racing. He then PASSED me clean
and took over 4th. To whoever that was , thanks, was
fun racin ya. I reeled off some laps and had good close
and clean racing again, with no WRECKS.

Then my car got tight and wouldn't turn in. After a lap
or two, i spun out and lost many places . Still no
damage to my car yet. A lap later i caught a Mazda and
a Toyota that had spun out. I drove a few laps and was
lapped by leader.

From here on it seemed that everyone was PUSHING to hard and i was being as fast and as cautious as i could.
Car was getting tighter and a Sauber came up on me
and at the top of the hill on the front straight. I got
loose at the tight left and wiggled a little and BAM, yep
i was rammed and flipped over. I had to call for tow.
That was the end of my race.

I vote for DAMAGE from now on and would like to see
FLAGS. Why flags you say ? Because if there were YELLOW flags , it would give the rest of the field a chance PIT and then to catch up with the leaders. I think
that the racing would be better. Drivers wouldn't go
down as many laps as they do now . I think it would
make the races funner for all the drivers , not just the
fast ones.

Congrats to Brent for his first pole
Race - I started behind Brent and ahead Dave who were fast and consistent for some laps but on lap 4 I overtook Brent owing to his spin .............for all the race I checked in particular Brent and Dave in F2 who were the most consistent (but also fastest hehehe) of the field on this track yesterday..............

When I read that race laps were 32 (instead of 28-30 as in race mail) I was surprised and I due a further pit stop because of poor fuel economy of my JAG...argh! ;D

Got first pole...yay.
Didnt figure I'd be able to hold off Fab for long and I went wide thru one of the esses and he got by after just a few laps.
Smokey....hopefully you are not blaming me for your spin, I wasnt close enuff to you....all race long I did not TRY to pass anyone thru the top of the hill section...I was content to follow cuz thats an incredibly hard place to pass anyone. You got sideways thru the first tight left hander at the top of the hill (from what I remember) and I yanked it left to try and avoid you however there wasnt enuff room and you probly got t-boned.
I later came up on Tom , Bob and Hoosier (like Dave mentioned) and I think this was my first time sideways at the top of the hill. Had to wait for cars to clear to get going again. Later in the race I was sideways there again (cant remember why) and had to wait some 15-20 seconds for an opening to get turned around.
During my only pit stop. someone else was pitting in fornt of me and they slowed more than I thought....gave me a scare for sure as I dodged left to avoid rear-ending them...sorry if I scared you too. ;-)
I like this track as it requires the utmost patience. There is little room for error and if you cant get past a car before the top hill section it is best to wait for the run downhill to pass, I think. Much consideration from cars being lapped last night too. Thanks. I realize that when a car is .5 behind, you may want to get out of the way as quickly as possible but sometimes it is best to just keep going instead of basically running off the road to let the car past. Easy to say I know....and it is just my feeling on it, some other front runners (not necessarily here but in general) may just like to blast by no matter where on track they are.
I think I learn something at each race, and this Bathurst one has taught me even more about patience.

Bathurst is the next race in WOSEC...now at Spa I think half of the field was out by the 100 lap mark. I predict more of the same. The front runners there are not likely to wait for 6-7 corners to lap people. Should be interesting.

Smokey, ok NR2003Season, throws a full course caution every time there is any incident whatsoever.

I think Ced has already made clear, that unless someone can dig up (or write) a local yellow code for us to use. It aint gonna happen.

So please, let it go man.

For whatever it's worth I had no problems hustling my TPTCC Mustang around Bathurst. As a matter of fact it was almost boring. But I do love the positive lock aspect of the V8 pony cars.

Whew! I really liked Bathurst and had a lot of fun last night despite doing everything I could to screw myself up. In an attempt to get better fps I cut 'trackside objects' from ALL to SOME, or so I thought. Turns out I must have clicked MINIMAL because there wasn't much out there! Made it really difficult since basically everything I used for braking and turn in was gone. Then I screwed up and pitted too early and didn't think I was going to make it to the end but got lucky and the race ended along with the fuel counter reaching 0 laps. I guess being a couple of laps down was a benefit! :-) I somehow managed to avoid most of the accidents, or at least the serious ones and escaped with 7th.

I don't want to step on any toes here because of being only a part time racer in PORRS and new to the league besides that but I sure do wish we could do a little better on the starts. We have to remember that (1) we race for an hour (2)tires are cold at the start (3) actual contact is made before the cars visually touch, but it seems as though every race we have a turn 1 pile up and last night was no different. Guys, from the s/f line it was a very short run to a 90 degree left. I have no idea who or why (and it doesn't matter) but I got hit hard enough to get airborn off of the guy that I got shoved in to. Please, can't we be a little less aggressive on the starts? After all, there is a reason why we're not on the front row......and we ain't gonna catch those faster guys anyway. There is no reason to go blasting into T1 and I think we should try to avoid the early big mess, get sorted out a bit and then have a race. If you're faster than me you'll be able to get by with no problem. No offense to anyone and I don't mean to preach but I think I've gotten tagged at T1/lap 1 of every race I've attended.

Overall a good event for the ChampCarFanatics.com Sauber.

I was nervous in practice during the week because I was having trouble breaking the two minute mark and getting the car stable. I finally found a couple things in the setup on Sunday, and that made a lot of difference.

I qualified P6... a little lower than I hoped but close to the quick guys. I pretty much got through the first corner mess as the flying cars passed me to the inside. I fell in behind Smokey (that was me hounding you bud!) and we ran together for a couple laps. I was quicker in several places, but not in the places where I needed to be to get a run to get beside for an outbraking maneuver. Finally got by cleanly when Smokey slipped a bit exiting T1.

Settled into P5 and ran off a bunch of laps in the 58s... with a couple 57s for good measure. I got close to Kevin (after a spin or off from him), and tried to stay close for several laps, but he pulled me by about 0.5 seconds a lap. Then, Brent had his off, and he and I ran with each other for a good while... that was fun!

Pitstop was nominal, although I had to recalibrate my wheel during the stop. Came out about a second behind Kevin, but he pulled away from me again.

By about 10 to go, I had about a 10 second lead on Brent and was solidly in P4. However, I made my one mistake in the tight left-hander and spun to the inside wall. Had to let Brent and a couple other cars go. Coudn't make it back to him, although he and Kevin looked to be having a good dice with a couple to go.

So, from not having any comfort on the tract to achieving a P5 with only one at fault incident is a good night for me. See y'all at the next event!

I started fourth and got tagged by a flying car at turn one. I clipped my car as it passed over me and spun me. I had a pretty good run although I had to make an extra fuel stop due to stopping too early. I left the pits about two seconds ahead of the forth place car. I was fortunate to get third as it was a gift from Brent.

All in all this was a good race considering the nature of the track.

i had fun racing the track but i think i'm gonna step down .i dont think i'm a good enough driver for your league and i will not continue to wreck people and if your wondering.no i never wrecked anyone on purpose i'm just not one to start trouble and i dont need a whole league mad at me.lol
i also finished on my roof .i was already 2 laps down and gladly would have let the guy pass me on a straight away.guess he didn't wanna wait
