Brazelton GA -- Onlookers were surpised today when the Miskatonic Motorsports jumbo jet landed at Hartsfield International Airport and unloaded a brace of Mazdas instead of the team's usual Saubers.
Team director Lugg Nutt remarked that while the Sauber is a wonderful car for places like Road America with long straights and sweeping curves, for shorter, tighter circuits like Road Atlanta, a different car is needed.
"A stiletto, not a blunderbuss," as he put it.
Upon arrival at the track, driver Paul Hamilton put in a few installation laps and was delighted with the car. "It handles like a go-kart. And the braking! I'm used to the big Sauber and this car stops like you tossed out an anchor."
Miskatonic set up their equipment and plan to practice every day leading up to the PORRS event in a fortnight.
Nutt said that the team hopes to equal or improve their results from Road America.

When I saw that over on the Redline forum, I said it was the best looking GTP paintjob I'd ever seen and I still think so -- a real rolling work of art.

hmmm....well, I'll still be driving the Sauber as it's been my favorite car ever since the first release. I'll have to see what kind of times I can run at Road Atlanta with it. Also, which Road Atlanta are we running? Tunlanta? or that other one...cuz Tunlanta is a lot tighter than the other... Scott

I assumed it was the original Road Atlanta and not Tunlanta? Also I liked the 2x at Elkhart too....adds a little bit of interest having to make a pit stop. Will Atlanta be 2x as well?

i dont have a good setup made yet for the mazda but i`m turning faster times with the sauber. Well well well... I worked for an hour and a half last night in the Mazda, turing and tesing and turned a certain time, which I won't reveal. Read your note, ran the Sauber with an old Riverside setup I had and turned a lap 8-tenths faster than the Mazda in just 10 laps with no tuning at all. That really surprised the heck out of me but obviously this makes me rethink which car to use here. Thanks for the hint... ;D

Times would be good...but a bit irrelevant if we don't know which version we're running. Can anyone confirm Tunlanta or Road Atlanta?
Cheers

I ran a couple laps at the old Road Atlanta and got a 1:01.115 not sure how that compares with anyone's times.

all right, I'm sure the Sauber is still definately the fastest here, ran some low 59's and just pulled off a 58.620. Just gotta work on being consistant, couple of fast bumpy turns that can be deadly.

Uh oh... Scott on fire! Everywhere I go (well, that's really only 2 places at this point) I seem to find a speedy Scott! LOL Looks like we all got some work to do. BTW... track looks to be the old track, not Tunlanta. The downloads page point you to a "roada" file, which would be the old track. That's what I'm gonna practice on unless I hear otherwise. Only drove there once in a Jag (and it may have been with GTP v1.0), and only turned 1:05s with the .fast setup. Gotta get practicing.

yeah...this track is really fast, I don't think it's very well suited for the Mazda as everyone's saying...A Mazda track would have to be more like Trois Rivieres, slow and tight, not long and winding like Road Atlanta.
Lowered my PB to 58.3 now, just about every turn my tires were smoking, so not sure if I'd be able to keep my tires very long at that pace. Really just need to focus on not touching any curbs now, cuz whenever I do I get up on 2 wheels and end up flying off the track at very high speeds. Makes for some excelent replays though.
