As mentioned in the team speak channel, I came across this discussion over at MNRL. I never really understood the fov and how much the right Fov can help your driving. I have been using something like 60 fov in the rfactor settings and never gave it a thought. However after reading this forum topic and trying out the recommended Fov, for my monitor size, aspect ratio and how far away my eyes are from the monitor, I was amazed at how much more precise my driving became. It was amazing. It really works. So just look at the spreadsheet and pick the tab for your monitor size and measure the distance your eyes are from your monitor and it will recommend a fov. I will add this, For the Porsche the right roof stanchion is a bit in the way when you go to turn in so I just upped the look ahead feature in rfactor to 80. This solved it nicely. Try it, it might help you. It is weird for the first few laps, but then once you get used to it WOW. here is the link docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ah63E8wuWhrgdHYyNGc5dmF1bV9YX0JqSERMUU5sTkE&authkey=CPzqkIAJ#gid=3

Thanks Dale....it works, I think. Perhaps I've done something wrong because after I run the process it generates a number less than 35 but 35 is the lowest number I can choose in the game ADVANCED DISPLAY FOV option. Even at that, 35 looks better than DEFAULT.

Thanks Dale....it works, I think. With my screen size (23") and aspect ratio it gives me a number lower than 35 but 35 lowest number I can choose in the game ADVANCED DISPLAY FOV option. Even at that, 35 looks better than DEFAULT. Can it be changed in the .plr file?

Tom, the file you want to modify is a .cam. In your case it is the "int_cam.cam" and is in the root Ford folder. Look for the FOV setting for whatever camera you use to drive (cockpit, tv_cockpit, onboard002). Ignore the 1st number, it's the 2nd one you want to change. For the Ford I think it is set to 62.00000. Change that to the recommended number of that fov tool.
This changes the view for this car only. If you want to change the view for all cars in rfactor you would adjust that Advanced Display FOV setting. I'm not sure which setting takes priority but I would guess it would be the one in the .cam file(?).

Thanks guys....I'll work with it and hope it will allow me to use the cockpit view. Back in the NASCAR days I could drive out of the cockpit but those were always ovals and it was no big deal. Once I started road racing I've never been able to "see" good enough and none of the seat forward, back, up, down helped much. Hopefully this will.

This is nutz...but then it is me! After trying several different settings in the neighborhood of recommended I find that the view I get when using the game FOV adjustment (higher actually) and then moving the seat gives me what I like best...at least with this mod. Now I'm interested to see what happens when I change the numbers in the BMW E90 and the GT 3 mod. No matter what....I can drive from the cockpit now. However, I reserve the right to switch back if I turn out to be slower or more dangerous.
