Hi Guys,
I'm excited that there seems to be a number of guys wanting to represent PORRS at the Bull Run. I saw a Bullrun Yahoo group email stating that teams from last year will get first dibs, so PORRS should have two cars automatically reserved.
I think the most challenging thing that we'll have to worry about is driver switching. Sounds much more complicated than the N2003S switching (and that was sometimes bad enough... LOL). Anyway, the Bullrun Yahoo group email include a link to an rsc discussion board thread which contained directions on how to do driver swaps. I have not digested the info yet, but saved the text for distribution to the PORRS team drivers. I'll get this all to you shortly.
The driver switching may still be in a testing phase, so there may be some fine tuning of the procedure before the Bullrun race. We need to all keep up on how to do this.
Talk witcha all later! Rob
Edit: Jan Kohl has send a response email saying that they are working on a precise driver swap method for the Bullrun... I'll keep an eye out for it.

I just read the "HOW TO" on driver swaping and wow is it ever more complicated than in the old days I think we'll have to spend some time practicing it to get it down pat for sure. DaveS

I think it may be worth while until ThePits releases their version of the swaps.
I agree with Harrison, we will need to practice this.
BTW, I have already emailed Jan letting him know I will be out of town this weekend if he opens up registration and to hold two spots.
Rob if he does open it, you could probably sign up the two cars. I think the standings from last year are still on the site so we can get our number and possibly a second one close.
This will be a 40 car race so it will be busy even on this track.

I'm ready and really want to give it a great show this year, Our car got burnt up just as I was getting ready to take the wheel last year, So I still have all that energy saved up to release this year.
Since Jan as limited to two cars if need be, maybe Full Metal Squirrel and Red Weasel Racing can form under "Another Fly By Night Company, Inc." and field a pair of cars as well...

Hey James,
That may be the plan if he does limit it. Kevin is going to sign up as soon as the entries go public. From the last list of pre-entries I surprised not to see more.

What program are we going to be using to communicate to each other? If it's VOIP I'll need to buy a headset. Any recomndations on a good one?

We've used Vetrilo in the past, and it seems to work, although some folks have had trouble getting mics to work (including me until just recently).
That said, I'd be willing to try Teamspeak as well. I've used Teamspeak with MNRL and it works nice. You can also download the Teamspeak Overlay program, which provides a real-time display on your game screen noting who's talking. Works really nice, IMO.
If all else fails, we could try Skype... just do a group call.
Regarless of which one we run, I need a better headset too!

Back on Topic Now!! Jan has just released the Hot Swap instructions for doing driver swaps. It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be, although there's some player file edit work we all need to do beforehand. I have the instructions as a pdf, and will email to anyone who needs it (although everyone should have got it through the yahoo group). Practice race is gonna be held this Saturday, 12:30 PM Eastern. I suggest we get a group there. We WILL need audio communication to do this correctly as the next driver has to jump into the car as a passenger and the current driver must be able to let the new next driver when he's hitting the Hot Swap button. We will all need practice at this!!! Talk to all y'all! Rob

Especially since some of the stuff I read at RSC has to do with adjusting the swap lag....I believe the default is 3 seconds, may need to get that to 1.5 or 2 at the most.
The other thing I need to get clarification on or we can test it is, can we stop in front of our pitbox, swap, make our changes and then pull into the box or does the car need to be moving. I think stopping in front would be a lot less stressful for all...lol

My son Royce just setup a Ventrilo server for us, I have asked Ced to send the info to the Team.
