Leadsled, Slee continue their run
(Final)
LOUDON, NH (PSS) -- Leadsled and Dave Slee picked up where they left off last week by posting wins in the PORRS Summer Series here Sunday (Aug. 3) on a night that saw some of the fiercest racing throughout the field this summer.
Leadsled, aka Pat Collins, used his third starting position to beat pole sitter Slee in race one by a scant .266 of a second on the 1.6-mile layout. Sandy Robinson was third with Ced Collins, Leadsled's Team LSR's mate, fourth and Gary Redshaw (Greds 04) fifth.
Slee had to overcame a second-lap spin that sent him to mid-pack to finish on the podium.
After making his way back through traffic, with about 12 minutes remaining, he had moved to within six seconds of Leadsled.
"I was catching up but he was running a smooth race and I just couldn't quite get up to him,'' Slee said.
"I lucked into it ... but I will take it,'' Leadsled said. "When he (Slee) got into second I had about a four-second lead and that evaporated to the point where I just held him off at the end. One more lap and it would have been his."
Redshaw, making his first top-five appearance of the summer, was having his own battles further back in the pack.
Riding in seventh on lap seven he spun but was able to maintain position. He got past Brent Curtis, fought off Greg Haley and then drove by Terry Vreeland who ran out of gas.
"I think it was mostly luck that I was even able to maek the top five as I wasn't expecting to catch up to anyone after having a spin,'' Redshaw said.
Slee came back to post a blistering lap of 1:14.897 taking the pole for race two and did a roll bar change. He was surprised by the results of the move.
"I wound up with a car that was way slower and not as comfortable to drive,'' he said.
Despite that, he switched finishing positions with Leadsled and won by six seconds. Robinson, who posted the fastest race lap at 1:15.284 picked up another third with Ced Collins fourth and Greg Haley fifth.
"Lucky Charms, Quisp and King Vitamin all dumped in
the gas tank,'' Ced said of his pair of fourths. "I
always seem to have the lack of prep and never had the "ultimate" setup to compete in our top of the line series. But these buggers, if you can drive, it will show.
"I had some great battles in both races,'' he said, "but the last one is still burned in my brain as I lost third to Lead late in the run because Sandy had a bobble. I slowed not to hit him and momentum is everything in these cars, well there went third. Now I am chasing Leadsled and Sandy has another bobble, I'm thinking I can get back on the podium, but right as Lead passes him, Sandy does a most excellent 360 and was able to stay in front of me for the position. Ugggg.''
The series moves to Birmingham and the .75-mile Motor Plex course next week.
