Here's my race review.
Practice. I came to the track knowing that I had a solid setup, but without knowing how fast it would be against the Saubers. It turned out that my baseline Jag setup suits 1967 Spa extremely well with only a gearing, wing angle, and rear tire pressure adjustment.
Qual. Had a good qual session. Didn't post a PB, but had just about my quickest lap with a heavy fuel load. Felt fortunate to get my first on-line pole position.
Race. Got a good start and built a several second lead on L1... I guess some turmoil happened behind me, but I haven't checked the replay yet. Made one mistake at the end of L1 when I half spun at the entrance to the hairpin... the bump at turn-in got me. Recovered without losing the point to Ced. Gradually built a comfortable cushion through the early laps. First pit stop at the end of L8, which ended up being very close to a problem, as the low fuel light came on with about 40% of L8 to run... thought I was gonna run out like during the first Zen race. Made it though, and retained the lead. Fuel only... no tires. Tried to run consistent and smooth through the second stint, and then pitted again at the end of L15 to ensure there would be no fuel problem. Fuel and tires, to make sure I had fresh rubber if it got close at the end. Was watching F2 pretty closely, and was trying to maintain a 25 to 30 second gap to Pat Collins in P2. Maintained that gap to the end of the race, and got my second race win here at PORRS.
Thanks to James Bowders for your courtesy during the race... it was apprecieated. Also, thanks to everybody for your congrats afterward... that too was appreciated. Those comments and courtesies are the main reasons I enjoy racing here at PORRS very much.
See everybody in Lemans in 2 weeks!
