Robinson runs away with title
MONACO (PSS) -- Had Sandy Robinson been driving for Big Brown trainer Rick Dutrow heading into Sunday's (Aug. 24) final race of the PORRS Summer Series, Dutrow may have said it was a "foregone conclusion'' Robinson would win the driving title.
Robinson, of course, is a bit more modest but won the first of the night's two races to ice the title after starting the evening with a 30-point lead over Leadsled.
Robinson beat James Bowders and Gary Redshaw and turned around with a fourth in race two. That race was won by Bowders with Terry Vreeland second and Ced Collins third.
Robinson finished the season with 242 points to beat Leadsled who was second with 185 points. Colllins was third (145) followed by Tom Nasella (124) and Dave Slee (122).
"It feels great to win the championship,'' an exhuberant Robinson said. "It was great fun all season with these cars
and good competition throughout. Too bad Dave (Slee) couldn't make all the races because the championship was definitely within his reach.'' Slee got a late start to the series but picked up several wins along the way.
Team LSR (Ludicrous Speed Racing), Ced Collins and Leadsled (Pat Collins), won the team title.
"We didn't know what to expect going into this and it sure was fun,'' Ced Collins said. "It was nice to be able to battle with guys that typically blow your doors off. This has given the team a resurgence and look out in the fall.'' Brent Curtis is the third member of the team but was beset by connection problems throughout most the summer.
