Got a new one the other and decided to wait until after last night's race to install in case I had problems. Turns out it didnt matter anyway.because of my connection. So I got it going this mornin with no problem. My old card: Nvidia GeForce4 Ti4200 AGP8x 128 mb new card: Sapphire x1650Pro AGP8x 512 mb My processor is Pentium4 2.53ghz wnd 512 mb ram Just curious now what I should do with my config for rfactor. I do not know what vsync and refresh rate do: Ive got it set at dx8 right now 1024x768 32bit level 1 anti-aliasing and am getting the same fps as with the old card of course I have bumped up alot of the display settings in rf. It does look better but I'm not blown away. I guess cause when I am racing I really dont care what the car in front of me looks like. ?? If I get more ram will my fame rate improve? Don't know if I can race anymore anyway because of my connection but thought I'd check some stuff out. I had kinda thought that since a better card would make things run a little smoother that it might improve my connection? Just because things are being processed better? Thanks

Brent you should have at minimum 1GB of Ram in your system, 2 GB would be better. My system is basically the same setup as yours except I've got 2 GB of Ram, a AMD 3.2 processor, and a ATI Radeon 1650 pro with 512mb hooked up to a 20" LCD display that I have set for 1680x1050 resolution in Windows and in rFactor. My rFactor is set to DX8 at 1680x1050 with level 2 of anti aliasing I believe (I'm at work right now so can't be sure). Ingame I've got most stuff set to medium resolution and have never had a problem with frame rate.
Ram for our older systems is pretty cheap now so I highly recommend that you upgrade to at least 1GB of ram by buying one more piece of 512mb of memory or you can pick up 2 pieces of 1GB memory for around 50 bucks I would think.
You shoulldn't have any fps issues with the computer and video card you have Brent, it's most likely your dial up connection that is the bottle neck.
(modified when I got home)

Thanks Dave... Ok well I can now say that I am impressed with the improvement in graphics. My car is now actually white instead of a dull grey. The tarmac looks awesome as well as many other aspoects of the circuits. I was doing a test against the AI at Miller and BAM one of them blew up right in front of me.....fire and smoke...very cool.

Yes, vast improvement with graphics, now you need to get a better connection so you can finish a race How about you move to someplace that has high speed access Brent, like Vancouver DaveS ;D

Yeah RAM will help a lot, I noticed a few changes to the graphics just by going from 1GB to 2GB (got it for nothing as it was going to be scrapped with the mainboard that had the problem), RAM will make it run smoother and add some extra stuff by default.
What kind of connection do you have Brent?
