I want to apologize to everyone for that post-race rant. I won't even bother trying to explain because there is no excuse for it under any circumstances. This league is great because of the camaraderie of the drivers and I damaged that with my thoughtlessness. It won't happen again.
And I want to offer a personal apology to Terry. My words came across like I was demeaning Terry's great drive. The fact is that he outdrove me, period. He deserved the position and I did not.
As for my race report, I suppose the word would be frustrated. I had too much wing in my setup, which is good in theory and can give you a slightly better lap, but the real bottom line is that while you might catch a car with less wing in the curves, you can't pass him there, and then he just drives away on the straights. In short, it's a great setup for hotlaps but not for racing.
That hotlap setup gave me a good qualifying time, but Sandy just shot by me at the start like I was dragging an anchor. I held second for a while but Brent -- welcome back! -- got by a few laps later and I pretty much just drove around by myself up to the pitstop.
Did not change tires, which has been my usual practice lately, but that might have led to a big part of my problems. There's a lot of sliding around on this track and by about the three-quarters mark of the race, the car was noticeably losing grip. I started pushing harder and hooked a curb at that slow left-hander and went into the grass. Seemed like it took a week to get back on the track and by then, Terry was right on my tail.
At that point, I was pretty much helpless. The harder I pushed, the worse the tires became and finally Terry pulled even on the back straight and I had to back off for that fast right-hander. To put a cap on the evening, I spun in the final corner of the final lap and smacked the wall and had to limp across the line just ahead of my teammate.
Congratulations to Sandy for a dominating performance and to Terry for driving a flawless race.
