Well, it was certainly an exciting race to be at, wasn't sure how this one would work out after my system locked up at the race before last, and with the spring clean of everything inside the case, and future improvements being planned.
The event went better than I had expected on lap times, early this morning I was pulling 1.10's, with a little tweak here and there, the car was knocking on 1.07's. If it wasn't for my flub on the fuel load (forgot to double it, as the new Mazda is thirsty), I was in the pits for tyres and a full tank of gas to make sure, this cost me some serious time, and I was lucky to stay in the top 10 I reckon.
Quite happy with third in class, with a questionable system reliability issue, it held together for a decent finish.
Great racing everyone, not sure what happened to Tom?

Red Weasel Racing Reports
Race Line: Ales
Ales, or as I pronounce it Ails. The Red Weasels really weren’t ready to be a major show of force here, after jetting in just in time to make the race after competing in the ILMS-ERL 12 Hours of Sebring. Yes, it really was 12 hours. We arrived at the track to find our car haulers were there and our skeleton crew had unloaded the cars and set them up with the same great SWAG method our favorite car chief Mister Jerry Rigg uses.
So with less than an hour we headed out onto the track to get a feel for it, my head still throbbing from all the bouncing around you endure at Sebring, man that is one bumpy track.
With only a handful of laps beneath our belts we were getting the hang of the track, my first observation was that if you jump the curbs or even just ignore the chicane you can get a great big time advantage, something I would suspect a few may take advantage of during the race. Just as I noticed that a few drivers must really enjoy running over cones and brake markers, because they would be fewer with each lap run.
So the Weasels gathered up what little effort they could muster and set out to Qualify. Not a stellar example of Wiley Weaselness but we were on the grid…in various places…when the call to stage the cars for the race I was distracted by technical issues (I was trying to get a selection of driving music loaded) needless to say I made the grid with seconds to spare…yeap 2 seconds to be exact.
And we were off, T1 was fairly clean then something bad happened, well for me something normal happened, someone hit somebody, then somebody hit me, I hit somebody then somebody hit someone and when the smoke cleared I saw I had pushed Old-N-Slo off the track so I went wide to GR (Gentleman’s Rule) rejoin behind the or your victim of the incident and resume racing. And with that for the umpteenth race in a row I have finished lap one in the last or near last position and face a long hard drive just to regain my starting position.
Miss Susan was doing better than I was, well until she had a few issues of her own, a few gravel traps, a few loosy goosy spins, and few nudges and shoves but she drove on to gain four spots and finish 11th up four spots. I on the other hand would battle my way back up from the rear taking advantage of a few driver errors and would finish a respectable P8 just about where I started.
Thanks for the racin’ and we will see you next time.
And FYI…
I have been reviewing the post race timing and I noticed that there may be some examples of something went wrong with the timing. For example Mark did his pit stop in a respectable time around 44 seconds that is, time in, service, and time out. I did my service 15 seconds for fuel only, and my stop looks like it was over a minute and half. Now I noticed other drivers also had some strange numbers, but not knowing if they took tyres and or had damage repaired I will have to watch the replay to really know for sure.
James Head Weasel
And BTW: we finished P13 overall and P8 in LMP2 Class in the 12 Hours of Sebring.

<<Great racing everyone, not sure what happened to Tom? >> No post race report.....CTD from unofficial practice to official practice....CTD from practice to qual....CTD from qual to warm up....CTD from warm up to race. Big waste of time, I won't be bothering with the last couple of races since it's been one problem after another.

Race went way better than I had hoped... early practice found the track difficult to handle, particularly with the decreasing radius and fall-away corners that made the car very loose on corner exit.
Race time came and got a good start from P4 on the grid. Eased through T1 and T2 and tried to settle in. Ran some good initial laps and the Top 4 P1 cars were running pretty close and competitively, with me at the tail. About 10 minutes in, I pushed off T1 and looped the car on the ice (I mean grass), taking slight cosmetic damage on the front. Got going again and started running some decent laps, trying to be careful while passing P2 cars. I advanced a couple positions through spins etc. and was even able to lead a lap as the pitstop cycle moved through.
Pitstop went normal, and came out for the last 20 minutes running generally clean laps and event setting my best race laps in the last 10 minutes or so of the event. Pretty satisfied with that even though I could not contend for the win.
I think the scoring bug hit both Terry and me. Essentially, the game did not seem to score the lap completed when the car pealed off to pit road. I don't know who else had this affect them, but it sounds like James got it too. I'm thinking I got P3 out of the deal, but I'll let Racemaster Ced sort that out!
Good fun as normal... see y'all next time.

Was very rusty after not racing for 6 months, and probably close to a year since I did any road racing. Had a lot of trouble with the last part of the track - the quick chicane and the right hander after that. Quick transitions like that always give me trouble as they are all timing. I did much better on the first half of the course which had more sweeping turns. I was going off too often, and with traffic coming up behind me I decided to bail out. I'll try to be more prepared for the next one.

I have reviewed the tape and as far as I can see Scotty took 1st Greds04 was 2nd and I was 3rd. I watched the tape and Scotty and Greds passed me while I was pitting. I just looked at our positions before and after the pits relative to each other. As a matter of fact as the game was scoring me as the winner Scotty was in fact almost lapping me. Somehow the game missed a lap for both Scotty and Greds. I watched the game drop them places as they were out on the track for no reason at all. I can't say how everyone else faired but that is the podium for LMP2 as far as I'm concerned.

Very interesting track if you had it down. Still trying to come to grips with the R10 and was down on lap times then the fairy God Father (Mark) floated me a setup with the "WARNING" Something like, many people think my setups are strange and the Rob's "confirmation"...LOL. Well strange it was as it had something in it I hadn't figured out yet with the Audi and to my surprise with two adjustments suited me very well. So needless to say if just pissed me off the rest of the race as I let Terry pass me and could stay with him (while I concentrated) and P2 - P4 couldn't catch me....while running 14th. But I guess it was payback for not knowing about the pitbug at Watkins for as I came in for my second stop (yeap blew the fuel calc) the pitbox wouldn't pick me up. So I spent the next 2 minutes trying multiple times to get the box to engage until I ran out of gas.....
Next race could be scary...lol.

Oh and Nice touch with the RWR Hauler to look at. ;D
I should have the adjusted timing completed tonight.

I had fun, but an hour takes more concentration than I can muster sometimes...more on that later. Race was eventful, I enjoyed running with the guys, tried not to get run over , lol, was mostly successful at that. Don't know where I finished or who won but whoever did, Congrats! Sorry to Terry, right near the end I came out of the pits and my little where are they line somehow got stuck. I looked, the coast looked clear and out I went. Looked in the mirror and realized Terry was right there. Sorry Mate... As for me, with five minutes to go I finally had big time brain fade and put 'er into T1 sand and wall, got a flat tire, ugh, all the way around at trawl speed for repairs. dang. See yas all next time, and nice to see our friend Sam out there!
